Goffstown Junior Baseball is proud to remember Clifford Rich Nyquist.
Each year, in his memory, an award is bestowed upon one player who shows exemplary sportsmanship to players, coaches, umpires, and league volunteers. Clifford reminds us that being a good friend and teammate is important both on and off the field.
Clifford was born on March 9, 1989, and died on November 7, 2004, in a swimming accident. A straight-A student and varsity athlete, he excelled in academics and several sports. A talented competitor, Clifford was a top alpine ski racer and was the number three qualifier in New Hampshire, earning him a spot at the 2004 Eastern Junior Olympics. He captained both the Mountain View Middle School soccer and baseball teams as an eighth grader. While part of Goffstown Junior Baseball, he was on the Northeastern Sheet Metal Majors team in 2000 and 2001 and started in center field for the 2001 All Star team. After he aged out of Goffstown Junior Baseball, Clifford moved to Goffstown Babe Ruth and made the St. Paul’s varsity baseball team as a freshman.
Clifford’s brother Lincoln was also a part of our league, earning a spot on the 2019 All Star team, winning the state championship, and playing at the regional tournament in Bristol. Clifford’s greatest love was baseball. He was overjoyed to see the Red Sox finally win the World Series in 2004. Clifford was kind, caring, and is remembered fondly by his family, friends, and fellow players. On the last day of his life, he spent the afternoon volunteering at The Birches, a home emphasizing care for Alzheimer’s patients.
Thank you to Lee Nyquist and Leslie Nixon.
